Yowel is a very exceptional stallion. He has it all the type, confirmation, movement, and disposition. He is beautiful and elegant but also muscular and well built and very solid. His build reminds me of the old Babson type and what I have found to be Davenport as well. Short and stocky, great hip, short back and well set neck with a sloping shoulder. He is a son of Black Lightning a son of the mare Sahanad and by the stallion Khemahr Moniet. Sahand was a straight Davenport mare tail-female *Wadduda. She was by the stallion Abu Hanad and out of Sahabet. Abu Hanad was by the Davenport stallion Hanad. Hanad was a very loved stallion and a champion at that. This is what I found that was said about him from one of his care givers: “his best points were a good shoulder and exceptionally beautiful, high carriage of tail, and his disposition was all that was ever claimed for the breed by its most enthusiastic admirers… Hanad proved to be adaptable to any sort of training of an unusual sort, such as “jumping rope” under saddle, doing the Spanish walk, standing on a pedestal, and so on.
“His calm disposition was never flustered by noise, crowds or strange surroundings, yet he was always spirited and full of “go,” making him ideal as an exhibition horse.
“He took part in practically all the shows, parades and motion picture work away from the ranch as well as doing his specialties in the Sunday exhibitions… Hanad played a noteworthy part in acquainting the public with the virtues of the Arabian breed, and he also contributed as a sire.”
Lightnings sire Khemahr Moniet was the son of Khemahr a Babson stallion sired by the famed Fa-Serr and out of the double granddaughter of *Fadl Henry Babsons foundation stalllion. Khemahr Moniets dam Khe Miss Moniet was by the champion Egyptian stallion *Ibn Moniet El Nefous who needs no introduction and out of a Babson mare also by Fa-Serr out of a daughter of Fay-El Dine. Yowels dam HPF Basantaa was by El Ad Bataa sired by El Bataas Epitomy who was sired by the Pritzlaff stallion Alcibiades by *Rashad Ibn Nazeer. Epitomy was out of Pritzlaaffs imported mare *Bint El Bataa. The Pritzlaff bloodlines are known for their athletic ability and ability to do dressage at ease. Also a trait of Davenports as well. Bataa was out of the Sahanad daughter Aziza Serr Anadah who was by the Egyptian import *Adhem. Basantaa was out of Bint Bint Sahanad by the egyptian stallion *Hatef and out of Sahanade (my personal favorite) daughter of Sahanad and *Adhem and full sibling to Aziza Serr Anadah
